And we’re walking!

6 Feb

Mason started walking yesterday!!!!  He took 9 steps yesterday and walked right to me.  I got it on video and my husband was right there to share it with me.

It made me teary to think of all the milestones he has hit.  Just yesterday alone he wowed me with his abilities – he climbed up into his rocker and out of it, into and out of a laundry basket, and walked from the couch to the baby gate.  I can’t believe he is going to be 1 NEXT MONTH.

Cloth diapering is still going great – still with the disposables at night though.  His butt is just too large with the number of inserts we need for nighttime.

He also said DAD the other day.  Not dada – DAD.  We got that on video, too!

I learned that for him to walk better to leave him barefoot in the house, but his feet get pretty chilly on our hardwood.  I’m currently looking for a good gripper slipper for when it’s just too chilly – any suggestions?

Enfamil/Similac Stock Up Sale at Meijer!

24 Jan

Meijer is having a GREAT stock up sale on baby formula right now.  And if you were lucky enough to find the $10 off Enfamil coupon on awhile back, you can get some great savings!

Right now through 1/28, Meijer is running $10 off instantly when you purchase 3 Similac or Enfamil formulas, 16 oz to 23.2 oz.

See my scenario below!  Now I use Similac Sensitive normally but all gentle formulas are required to be the same by the FDA, so I can use the gentlease too – and have without any hiccups…. literally and figuratively…. 🙂

This is what I plan on doing, I will update if it doesn’t work.  Even if you don’t have any coupons this is a screaming deal for both Enfamil and Similac!

Buy 3 Enfamil Gentlease formulas 22 oz – $23.99 each
Subtotal: $71.97 – $10 Instant savings = $61.97
Use 3, $10/1 Enfamil coupons
New subtotal: $31.97
Use 2, $3/1 Enfamil product checks receive from signing up with them for coupons

My Quick Steak and Caramelized Onion Pizza

7 Dec

So last night I realized I had some thawed dough in the fridge to use and I didn’t want to just make plain pizza.  I wanted to put some protein on it.  So I realized I had some flank steak in the freezer so here’s what I did!

Cook the steak in a pan with some salt and pepper.

Cut up the onions into slices and place in a pan with some olive oil.  Put a dash of sugar and salt in to speed up caramelizing.  Don’t put heat up too high – you don’t want to burn the onions, but they should be black when done 🙂

Preheat the oven according to your pizza dough instructions (mine was 425).

Spread crust into a pan – layer with cheese (gorgonzola or blue would be good but I used a pizza blend), steak, cheese, onions, then a dash of rosemary.

Bake according to instructions (mine was 12-15 minutes).

It was so good we had no leftovers!  It’s amazing how you can turn a boring pizza into a speciality one just by scoping out your freezer!

Prefolds – FAIL

5 Dec

We tried 2 nights in a row to use prefolds – one as an insert and one laid on top the diaper with an insert in it – both nights he woke up soaked.
It looks like disposables will be it… I don’t want to spend another $80 trying to buy different inserts!  Anyone have any ideas to help me?

My Solids Conundrum!

3 Dec

Every day I try to make sure Mason gets fruits, veggies, and grains.  But I was starting to freak out if I forgot to give him one or the other!

So I asked my mom and another friend if I was screwing up horribly by not remembering to give him all 3 every single day.  And they chuckled and said NO!  They said he’s obviously thriving (he’s about 23 pounds now) and I’m not messing him up for life.

I started off by making all of his baby food with the Baby Brezza One Step Baby Food system (and all of its components) which is amazing!  Since then they have come out with so many more cool gadgets like a formula dispenser, water heater, etc.  But when I froze the homemade stuff and thawed it for him to eat, it would always be watery and he would eat it but it wasn’t ever the right consistency.   I still make him everything that he tries for the first time, and will never feed him meat from a baby food jar because it creeps me out, but he loves Earth’s Best Organic food, and the Gerber puffs and lil’ crunchers and yogurt melts.

It’s hard trying to remember every day to make sure he eats fruits veggies and grains but when my days are spent chasing him around the living room, making sure he’s not eating power cords or hitting his head on our jagged rock hearth (which we have covered in foam and rubber corners from Babies R’ Us but it’s still dangerous), it’s sometimes hard to get him to high chair!

I can’t believe he will be 1 in 3 months!

**UPDATE Walgreens 12/4 Trip!

3 Dec

The transactions that are striked out did NOT work for me at Walgreens today.

I checked all my stores and Walgreens seems to be the only one worth visiting this week!  Here’s my shopping list!

I found these deals at Fabulessly Frugal 🙂

I’m also picking up some Mead envelopes 40-100 pack for only $0.69.  I need them for my new Lia Sophia business 🙂

I ended up not doing the one above because my son won’t be 2 until 2013 and they all expired in 2012 but it would still work.  My Walgreens had Triaminics with a $1.50 off MFR coupon on them so if you can’t get any of the above, stop in and see if your store has the coupon on the medicine!
